CAMINANDO POR UNA SONRISA

INVESTIGATION

Why this topic?

I chose to make a fundraiser for Operation Smile since it's the club that I think impacts the most the Peruvian society because before teaching children to do anything, they should be able to speak properly, as well as smile to show happiness.

Who are you collaborating with?

I'm working with the Operation Smile Foundation, but the fundraiser is being organized by Francesca Abusada, Paula Aragonés, Sabrina Pflucker, Jorge Albin, Luise Neves, Valentina Aguirre and I.

Is it creativity, activity or service?

This will be mostly service since it is to raise money and awareness about cleft palette but it will also be creativity to find all the possible ways to raise money and activity because people will be running or walking to make money.

Which learning outcomes will I pursue?

3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

5. Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaborative.

6. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

PLANNING

When will the project start and end?

The event will happen on November 7th, but it will begin to be planned on August.

How will you manage your time?

We will have meetings every time we have CAS time offered by the school and too during a lunch period every month to catch up on what we have to do.

Is your purpose clear?

The purpose is crystal clear: raise as much money as possible in order to fund as many surgeries as possible, as well as raising awareness for cleft palette.

Could I do a timetable or schedule?

DEMONSTRATION

REFLECTION

What went well?

We were very organized when looking into who was going to do what. Everybody had a task and everybody did it. My task, amongst others, was to market the event and I did this by contacting the other schools' Operation Smile clubs, as well as asking people with great social media presence (1000+ followers) to add the poster designed (seen below) to spread the word. We made a great profit out of the bake sale in the run; much more than we expected, actually.

What would you do differently next time?

Next time I would choose another date in which more people could participate since many people were too busy to come to school.

Main takeaways?

When planning events, it doesn't only have to be organized, but it also has to be done with time in advance in other for the potential participants to organize their own time and be able to contribute to the cause.
