The Peruvian Social Studies Club, also known as the OPP Club is a club in which we embrace the our beloved country's culture. Since we attend the American School of Lima (Amersol), the Peruvian culture is not as present as it is in other schools and us, as people proud of their country, dislike the lack of awareness about the Peruvian culture there is in school, as it is so rich in every way.

In the club we organize school events like Día de la Bandera on the 7th of June to commemorate La Batalla de Arica, El Día de la Canción Criolla on the 31st of October to celebrate Peruvian creole music and many others. The biggest celebrations of all is Peru Fest, which is a three hour festival on a Wednesday school Community Day.

Peru Fest is extremely hard to organize since it is necessary to have Peruvian food from different companies that are willing to not charge for the stand, but only for the food their selling, since the budget is very limited, because it's an independent school club and has to find its own way of gathering. In addition, Peru's music and dancing is just as dynamic as the food, meaning that that cannot be left out. We get school workers to dress up in typical costumes and dance different types of dances like el baile de tijeras, marinera, huayno and numerous others. We have even got horses to school for marinera performances which sometimes include the participation of horses.

In addition, we do community and service when unfortunate events, which are common in Peru, occur, we fundraise in various different ways to help those of our country in need; this includes subzero temperatures, earthquakes, fires and mudslides. We are so lucky because most of these events rarely affect us, but there is people who have lost everything and can do nothing about it, which is why we can't live knowing that someone we could be helping is suffering so horribly.
